Consultations are by appointment only. Appointments can be made by telephoning the surgery, on-line via this website or in person at reception. Half of the surgery appointments are available for advanced booking but once these have been filled the remainder of the appointments are allocated on a first come first served basis on the day.
Patients are registered with THE PRACTICE not with a specific doctor. You are free to book appointments with the doctor of your choice, however, should the doctor be unavailable you will be offered an alternative appointment with a different GP. You may prefer to wait to see a particular GP and this may result in you having to wait more than 48 hours. Should you be unable to keep an appointment please contact the surgery to advise of a cancellation giving as much notice as possible so that the appointment slot can be offered to another patient.
Home visits are reserved for the truly housebound and those that are so incapacitated that they cannot be brought to the surgery. Visit requests are judged on the clinical need, please telephone as early as possible in the morning. The doctor will usually telephone you back to discuss the clinical problem prior to attending. In virtually ALL cases children can be safely brought to the surgery (or the emergency centre during out of hours) for a more thorough assessment.
In An Emergency
There is always a doctor on-call. If you need a doctor urgently at any time please telephone the surgery or NHS Direct on 0845 4647
Out of Hours
Cover is provided by our GP Co-operative ( Integrated Care Sefton ) between 6.30 pm and 8.30 am and all weekend & bank holidays. The service is operated by local GPs, the contact number for ICS is 0845 0704422. The out of hours clinic is based at Litherland Town Hall Health Centre in the south and St Philips HC Formby in the north and is by appointment only.
Telephone Advice & Results
Please telephone after 14:00 for the results of investigations.
To seek medical advice over the telephone please arrange a telephone consultation with the GP of your choice they will endevour to call you back at a specified time. Please remember to also ensure your mobile phone is well charged and that you check your home voicemail if you feel the doctor hasn't called. It is surprising how many patients are completely unaware that their telephone provider gives them a voicemail facility on 1571 !
Please give 48 hours notice in writing for your repeat prescriptions, remember saturday and sunday do not count as working days. We can accept requests in writing or by fax only at the present time. Please do not telephone requests (unless you are registered as housebound) as there is the potential for serious errors if the names of medications are misheard.
