We are actively trying to seek a replacement GP but may well have to rely on using locum cover where possible for the next few months until we can appoint the right candidate.
This could potentially affect patient access to a GP as less appointments would be available, as a consequence we wil be trialling a new system from the week commencing 20th April 2015 for booking appointments.
When patients ring for an appointment they will have their name & contact number that they are available on taken and put on a GP triage list. The GPs at the surgery will then plough through the phone calls offering patients advice where appropriate (for instance self care advice for self limiting illnesses, sick/fit notes, repeat prescriptions) or arranging a same day face to face contact with a GP at a mutually convenient time for conditions that will require an examination.
We hope this will provide the capacity for the ever increasing demand for appointments.
We also hope that this will rapidly get rid of the 8am queuing system that has developed outside the surgery over the last year or two as all patients will be contacted the same day.
